According to a statement posted on the Ubisoft website, players can receive collectibles from the Ubisoft game world known as Digits, which are “the first NFTs that can be played in games. Play AAA and run on energy-efficient technology. ”In-game digits such as vehicles or guns will be published in limited numbers and numbers and will be given away for free to early registrants on December 9th, 12th and 15th in the United States and Canada. Quartz will also be available in Brazil, Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, Italy and Australia.
Ubisoft Quartz’s energy-saving technology is deployed on Tezos’ evidence-of-stake blockchain. Didier Genevois, Director of Blockchain Engineering at Ubisoft, expressed the company’s commitment to reducing its global footprint in an interview posted on the company’s website:
“This type of blockchain achieves similar results and uses significantly less energy than evidence-of-operate protocols. To give you an idea, one transaction at Tezos is equivalent to 30 seconds of video streaming, while at Bitcoin it is equivalent to one year of continuous video streaming! ”
However, Ubisoft previously teamed up with the distribution platform Extremely to use its games on the UOS blockchain. Cointelegraph reached out to Ubisoft to find out more about their relationship with Extremely. No comments were received at the time of publication.

In the same interview with Genevois, Ubisoft’s blockchain product manager, Baptiste Chardon added more about NFT and video games:
“This new approach could even open up new possibilities like interoperability between games in the long run. […] We see blockchain as a means to bring the value they create by interacting with their games back into the hands of gamers and creators. ”
Ubisoft is among the 25 largest video game companies in the world by market capitalization of over $ 5.8 billion. And it is important that an AAA games company get involved in blockchain technology, as other companies like Valve recently withdrew blockchain games from their market.
