According to a recent release, Flexa, a cryptocurrency payments startup financed by the Winklevoss twins, has introduced support for Shiba Inu.
This means that holders of the most popular meme coin may now spend it at about 40,000 businesses across the United States.
Video game shop GameStop, luxury retailer Nordstrom, home improvement business Lowe’s, pet retailer Petco, domestic products and home furnishings firm Bed Bath & Beyond, beauty store chain Ulta Beauty, and a slew of other large stores are among those supported.
Regal Cinemas, located in Knoxville, also teamed with Flexa last month in order to take cryptocurrency.
Starbucks also took part in the app’s testing, but was quickly removed from the list of accessible businesses, despite the viral photo of the Winklevoss twins using the app to make a purchase.
Flexa’s Spedn cryptocurrency wallet, which was introduced in 2019, facilitates crypto payments. It initially supported four cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, and the stablecoin Gemini Dollar.
Flexa also added Dogecoin, the original canine meme coin, to its cryptocurrency roster in May.
The network seamlessly transforms cryptocurrencies into fiat currency, removing the need for shops to deal with the fluctuation associated with cryptocurrencies. Instant payments are made possible using Amp, an ERC-20 token that serves as crowdsourced collateral.
Over the last month, Shiba Inu has made considerable gains towards merchant acceptance.
Earlier this week, electronics company Newegg announced that it would take Shiba Inu payments. According to CEO Adam Aron, movie theater chain AMC also wants to include Shiba Inu in early 2022.
Despite these significant adoption milestones, the token’s price is down 60.39 percent from its lifetime high.
