MetaMask, a popular crypto wallet that was developed as a browser extension, has unveiled a non-fungible token extension (NFT) in its yet-to-be-launched app.
MetaMask’s official Twitter account says: “Our workshop gnomes are perfecting the collection function of the extension in order to be able to keep up with our mobile app.”
MetaMask is a primary unattended crypto wallet application that allows users to send and receive cryptocurrencies and tokens based on Ethereum (ETH). It is estimated that the platform has more than 21 million users.
On their Zendesk server, MetaMask announced last week that users will be able to add NFTs as custom tokens in the extension, but will not be able to see them.
“We are actively working to improve NFT support in the MetaMask extension; It will be available shortly and this information will be updated as it becomes available. To manage your NFTs via MetaMask, use MetaMask Mobile for the time being. “
However, it should be noted that MetaMask Mobile is currently displaying NFT “in the NFT tab”.
It also describes that they get their data from OpenSea on the large NFT marketplace.
MetaMask is a software cryptocurrency wallet that is used to interact with the Ethereum blockchain. It allows users to access their Ethereum wallet through a browser extension or mobile app, which can then be used to interact with decentralized applications. MetaMask is developed by ConsenSys Software Inc., a blockchain software company focused on Ethereum-based infrastructure and tools.
MetaMask enables users to store and manage account keys, transfer transactions, send and receive cryptocurrencies and Ethereum-based tokens, and connect securely to decentralized applications via a browser, compatible web or the built-in browser of a mobile app.
The application includes an integrated service for exchanging Ethereum tokens by merging several decentralized exchanges (DEX) to find the best exchange rate. This feature, known as MetaMask Swaps, charges a service fee of 0.875% of the transaction amount.
Before 2019, MetaMask was only available as a desktop browser extension for the Google Chrome and Firefox browsers. Due to the popularity of MetaMask with crypto users and the lack of an official mobile app for several years, cases of malware masquerading as MetaMask have become problematic for Google to regulate the Chrome Web Store and Google Play platforms. In one case, Google Play accidentally removed MetaMask’s official beta app before the decision was reversed a week later, on January 1, 2020.
As of 2019, MetaMask began releasing mobile app versions for closed beta testing, followed by an official public release for iOS and Android in September 2020.
In October 2020, MetaMask Swaps, an integrated DEX aggregation service, was added to the desktop extension. The product will be available on mobile devices in March 2021.
