Monkey Kingdom – Solana’s NFT project previously received notable support from American DJ Steve Aoki – notification last night that the platform on Discord suffered a security breach in which hackers stole $ 1.3 million worth of cryptocurrencies from the community.
According to the developers, the hacker first compromises Grape, a popular solution for verifying users on Solana, then attacks the exploit to take over an admin account and posts a phishing link on the channel. Masses of users clicked the link to connect to their wallet in hopes that they would receive NFT, but to their surprise, the hacker emptied their SOL tokens.
Tragically, the hack took place while users were queuing for the project’s second drop. Monkey Kingdom consists of 2,222 NFTs that were created using an algorithm based around Sun Wukong, also known as the “Monkey King” in Chinese folklore. All proceeds from the first NFT sale will go to a charity of the users’ choice with the aim of helping Asian communities around the world. This is one of the most successful NFT projects originating in Asia.
Hacking is nothing new to the crypto industry. Over the past year, scammers have repeatedly targeted Discord users and exploited the platform itself to stage such NFT hacks.
