A man was drugged for his Bitcoin holdings after meeting a woman through a dating app who claimed to be a “crypto trader” on her profile.
Jameson Lopp, CTO at bitcoin self-custodial solution provider Casa, recently shared about a corporate client who lost some of their bitcoins for a pretty interesting reason. It all happened after the two returned to the man’s apartment on a date and his drink may have had some kind of sedative added to it.
“One of our customers was attacked on a dating app and was drugged with the aim of stealing all of his crypto,” Jameson Lopp share.
The victim was tricked by the woman into unlocking her phone and giving her access to her password. When he woke up the next day, he found that his phone was missing while his wallet, cash and debit card were still there.
While the man claims to have lost a small amount of Bitcoin, Lopp said it is largely kept safe in his wallet thanks to the multi-sig setup.
