Airbnb, the online accommodation platform, may soon accept bitcoin payments.
CEO Brian Chesky recently said on Twitter that reserving lodgings using cryptocurrencies is the most popular request for this year.
Chesky invited his Twitter followers for Airbnb-related recommendations on January 3rd. After sifting through hundreds of tweets, he came to the conclusion that cryptocurrency was obviously in the lead. It is followed by clear price displays, a guest loyalty program, updated cleaning rates, and better customer service.
Chesky claims to have seen a range of token proposals, implying that Airbnb’s future cryptocurrency payment lineup would most likely not be restricted to one or two tokens.
He also stated that since 2013, the company has processed $336 billion in payments.
Visa, MasterCard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal are presently accepted by Airbnb.
In September, Chesky told Fox Business that Airbnb has received a large number of requests for bitcoin payments.
We get a lot of requests, I’ve been getting it for years, I have nothing to announce on it today.
In its initial public offering (IPO) prospectus, the firm declared that in order to stay successful in the future, it needed to adapt to cutting-edge technology such as cryptocurrencies and blockchain.
In 2016, the world’s largest rental marketplace purchased bitcoin tipping startup ChangeTip.
It’s worth mentioning that Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, one of the world’s wealthiest individuals, used to work for the vacation rental company.
Airbnb’s latest cryptocurrency turn comes in the midst of competition from decentralized blockchain-based rivals such as Dtravel, a vacation rental service founded by Travala.com.
