According to the AZCoin News, on July 22nd, Saudi Aramco, the world’s largest oil producer, confirmed that some company records were leaked by a contractor and stolen by hackers last month. XMR).
Aramco said in a statement that third party vendors leaked the company’s data indirectly. The data breach was not caused by a system breach and did not affect the operation of the company.
“We can confirm that the data loss was not due to a breach of our systems, did not affect operations, and the company continues to maintain a strong cybersecurity position,” said Aramco of the company.
Hackers claim to have obtained information about refinery locations, payroll files, and confidential employee and customer data.
In another post, the hacker also offered potential buyers the opportunity to purchase the data for around $ 5 million.
Giant Aramco has been the target of numerous cyberattacks. In 2012, the company was attacked by what is known as the Shamoon computer virus, which erased the hard drive and then displayed a burning image of the American flag on the computer screen. The attack forced Aramco to shut down the network and destroyed more than 30,000 computers.
US officials later reverted the attack to retaliation from Iran, whose uranium enrichment program for nuclear development was affected by the Stuxnet virus, allegedly created by the US and Israel.
