The vast untapped sports sponsorship regions of Africa and Australia are getting some recognition this week as two major crypto exchanges have made similar forays, the first application for esports on the continents. Taking NFL Dec Bryant wide receivers like NFT to the next level. And two recognizable names in esports have been mentioned in a recent crypto fraud token lawsuit.
Another busy week for esports and crypto. Let’s review the sports and cryptocurrency highlights compiled by Bitcoinist over the last 7 days.
NFL wide receiver Dez Bryant has had an illustrious football career and has shifted his focus from playing on the field to growing off the field thanks to his Personal Corner background, which has been 6 years in the making. Over the past year, Bryant has focused on the Personal Corner with a primary focus on NFT – and last week doubled that stance with intent to build “dynamic” NFTs, thanks to the support of industry experts. Chainlink managers and active NFL players.
Bryant’s NFTs automatically change their appearance based on how their respective NFL players perform on the field each weekend. NFL players like Von Miller and “Hollywood” Brown have signed up to be part of the platform.
Crypto.com kicks off a year with more esports deals, this time setting goals ashore. The cryptocurrency exchange has signed a five-year deal with the Australian Football League (AFL) and will act as a partner for the Toyota AFL Premiership Season and NAB AFLW competitions.
The move ensures AFL is the first Australian sports governing body partner for Crypto.com and AFLW is the first elite women’s sports competition the exchange has sponsored globally, according to the report.
Check out what Crypto.com CEO Kris Marszalek had to say about the deal:
“We are committed to investing in Australia, a key market and leader in crypto adoption, contributing to our rapid growth with over 10 million users worldwide. AFL and AFLW are the perfect platforms to connect with Australian sport and culture. By far the country’s most popular spectator sport has been played for over 150 years, a rich history that has uniquely brought Australians together in our way.
Cryptocurrency exchange Binance has reached an agreement with the Confederation of African Football to become an official partner of this year’s Afcon-Africa Cup of Nations football tournament. Binance will act as the official crypto and blockchain partner and will also be the current sponsor of many awards.
“With a population of 1.2 billion Africans and the ubiquity of blockchain technology and its use cases, we believe the African continent can lead the future of the blockchain industry.” said Yi He, co-founder and chief marketing officer of Binance. Investing in football across the continent clearly appears to be an untapped brand awareness game.
Chainlink has outperformed traditional crypto trends over the past few weeks and has shown unique resilience against many of the top 50 cryptocurrencies.
Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. and former NBA star Paul Pierce have been named in the latest crypto fraud lawsuit, including longtime influencer Kim Kardashian, who alleges all three used social media to defraud followers in a lawsuit alleging allegations is said to have pumped and dumped the EthereumMax (EMAX) scheme. All three are said to have been paid in EMAX tokens to fund that token and make big profits during the upleg, leaving ordinary investors out of pocket. The class action lawsuit cites multiple social media posts by Kardashian and Pierce.
Both Kardashian and Mayweather had previous violations, with Kardashian dealing with the FDA in 2015 over a confounding nausea pill and Mayweather dealing with SEC issues in 2018 that earned him a ban, a more than $500,000 fine, and an injunction conferred not to promote any securities for three years.
