As reported by Chief Financial Officer Phong Le, MicroStrategy will continue to invest in Bitcoin (BTC) despite the recent drop. The company, which held $2.41 billion worth of BTC as of Sept. 30, says its strategy is to buy and hold BTC.

Investment giant Grayscale Investments has added 25 digital assets to its list of potential investments, including DeFi projects Algorand (ALGO) and Convex (CVX), as well as startups Metaverse The Sandbox (SAND), Axie Infinity (AXS) and Yield Guild Games (YGG) . However, they added that not every property under consideration can be converted into one of their investment products.

Major asset manager Schwab Asset Management wants to offer its clients additional exposure to cryptocurrencies such as spot cryptocurrencies or blockchain technologies in the form of exchange-traded funds (ETFs), David Botset, head of equity and innovation product management, told Blockworks. The company has offered four third-party mutual funds and four crypto-related ETFs.

Blockchain Founders Fund has raised $75 million for its BFF II fund from multiple investors including NEO Global Capital, AppWorks and Sebastien Borget, CEO of The Sandbox, a video game and app metaverse. The fund said it has invested in a number of companies, including decentralized derivatives exchange FXDX and video game tech startup Breshna.

BCB Group, a provider of business accounts and trading services for the digital asset economy, announced that it has closed a $60 million Series A funding round co-led by Foundation Capital. This funding round will enable BCB Group to provide payment infrastructure and marketplaces in more regions, they said.

The YouTube video platform is exploring more NFT features for its video creators, CEO Susan Wojcicki wrote to the site’s broadcasters, according to Bloomberg. However, she didn’t say exactly what her team is planning or when. Additionally, Wojcicki told the creators that their company sees Web 3 as an “inspiration.”

Blockchain-Based Services Network (BSN), China’s state-approved blockchain infrastructure project, announced that it is releasing its platform for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in water. To distinguish it from NFTs outside of China that trade in cryptocurrencies on public chains (banned in China), NFTs have been renamed from BSN to Decentralized Digital Certificates (DDCs).

Italian high fashion brand Gucci has teamed up with toy brand Superplastic for a 10 NFT discount starting February 1st. Each NFT receives a ceramic sculpture, handcrafted in Italy and co-designed by Gucci.

John Lennon’s son Julian will be selling a collection of Beatles memorabilia as an NFT set called the “Lennon Collection” on the NFT YellowHeart marketplace starting February 7th. The collection includes some notes Paul McCartney made while writing the song “Hey Jude, John”, Lennon’s clothes from the Beatles films and various guitars that were given to Julian Lennon by his father.

Thailand’s financial authorities plan to regulate the use of digital assets as payment for goods and services, the Bank of Thailand, the Ministry of Finance and the Securities and Exchange Commission know. Regulators say they will consider using their powers to restrict the use of cryptocurrencies for payments and will issue new guidelines for a range of digital assets that support the financial system and innovate without introducing systemic risk.

Belarus has no plans to tighten its liberal cryptocurrency regulation, the press service of High-Tech Park, Belarus’ cryptocurrency regulator, told Bloomberg. Belarus liberalized the use of cryptocurrencies in 2017, allowing individuals to own, mine and exchange digital currencies for tokens or other currencies.

According to Binance, it has agreed with the Argentine Football Association (AFA) to become the main sponsor of the national football team and name sponsor of its national football tournament for five years. This is the first deal Binance has struck with a national soccer team anywhere in the world, the company added.

Coinbase has launched a free tax hub that shows users’ taxable activities in one place, including short and long-term gains and losses, to help US taxpayers file pending taxes with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). In addition, Coinbase and Coinbase Pro customers have free access to tax reports for up to 3,000 transactions made on these platforms.

Bithumb will stop accepting wallet addresses that are not properly registered with the exchange as it enforces travel rules. This rule, recommended by the intergovernmental Financial Action Task Force, requires exchanges to collect data on transactions and release them to authorities when they exceed a certain threshold.

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) Innovation Center announced that it will launch new projects on central bank digital currency (CBDC), next-generation payments system and decentralized finance (DeFi) in 2022. CBDCs account for 3 of the 17 projects operational through 2021 or to be launched in 2022, they added.

The DeFi Acala Network (ACA) project is already live on Polkadot (DOT). News of its launch on mainnet was shared in a tweet stating that the ACA utility token is “now transferrable, allowing the community to send, receive and participate in on-chain governance “.
