Ryan Wyatt said that he would leave his position as head of gaming at Youtube in February on Tuesday. YouTube Gaming has over 250 million daily active users and tens of billions of watch time every year, thanks in part to his leadership. Wyatt explained his decision by citing his interest in blockchain and Web3 development. He will shortly become the CEO of Polygon Studios.

Polygon Studios is the gaming and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) branch of the layer-two Ethereum scaling network of the same name. Polygon (MATIC) invests $100 million in projects directed by its spinoff studio, which launched in July of last year.

The company aims to promote decentralized gaming, entice blockchain enthusiasts to its NFT token ecosystem, and establish Polygon as a proficient blockchain for the Web3 transition. Ryan Wyatt stated about his new role:

“I will be focusing on growing the developer ecosystem through investment, marketing and developer support and bridging the gap between Web 2.0 and 3.0. I’ll be leading the Polygon Studios organization across gaming, entertainment, fashion, news, sports and more.”

In his resignation remark, Wyatt described his first day at Google’s Mountain View, California headquarters in 2014. He also thanked CEO Susan Wojcicki and Chief Business Officer Robert Kyncl for recruiting him eight years ago. Meanwhile, Wyatt was warmly welcomed by Polygon Studios in his new post.

YouTube Gaming allows viewers to watch a game being played in real-time for entertainment or competitiveness. The platform debuted in 2015, following in the footsteps of Twitch Gaming.
