Sports and Cryptocurrency News Illustrated is following in the footsteps of many other more traditional magazine publications (like SLAM) to get into the NFT space, Nike and StockX are vying for it, and an Olympic-sized NFT game is coming…
Let’s take a look at the top esports and crypto news over the past week.
OneOf has been making headlines in the music world for the past 8 months, partnering with major artists for some of their first NFT interests. Now the platform is expanding into new territory, beginning in February with the new announcement of a partnership with Sports Illustrated.
While OneOf’s music platform operates on Tezos, OneOf and SI will be collaborating with NFT on Polygon, starting with reviving the classic sports magazine covers SI has been publishing for almost 70 years. The platform is scheduled to launch later this month.
Sportswear is a Nike mainstay, and hypebeast shipping e-commerce platform StockX is at odds as Nike filed a lawsuit against StockX’s new “Vault NFTs” last week. The apparel brand has filed a federal lawsuit against StockX alleging that the NFTs infringed on Nike’s IP rights without the brand’s consent.
Terra became one of the top 10 tokens by market cap in the overall crypto market late last year and has remained steady ever since. This week, the creators of Terra, Do Kwon and Terraform Labs, submitted a new proposal to the admin desk for Terra owners: a new sports sponsorship deal.
A five-year, nearly $40 million deal is likely to be finalized — and while many details remain unknown, we’ll likely see Terra — the creator of the leading decentralized stablecoin — in a major sports arena somewhere in the coming months. This is the first documented time we’ve seen a DAO vote on a sports sponsorship deal.
Entain is the market leader for sports betting in Europe and the UK. In a Jan. 31 press release, Entain announced Ennovate, a new innovation hub that will partner with tech companies to invest in innovative projects and startups. A dedicated innovation lab is also expected to come to London. NFTs, AR and VR, and VR Arcades are thought to be the three main groups that Ennovate will focus on.
If you’re in Los Angeles this month for the Super Bowl, you’re eligible for a customized Super Bowl NFT. It’s the latest foray into the NFTs from the often hesitant NFL, which only released its first anniversary tickets a few months ago. The NFL has reportedly distributed more than a quarter million NFTs since it first started. The NFTs are shaped on polygon.
This latest move shows optimism when it comes to the NFL’s stance on crypto.
