CoinMarketCap Quietly Deleted The Fake SHIB Addresses, Now Only The ERC-20 SHIB Coin Is Displayed

On February 9, Twitter user @shibainuart indicated that CoinMarketCap has erased three Shiba Inu (SHIB) addresses from the blockchains of Binance Smart Chain (BNB), Solana (SOL), and Terra (LUNA). Now only the ERC-20 (ETH) SHIB coin is displayed on the site.

A big Twitter controversy erupted roughly three weeks ago when Shiba Inu developers claimed that “CoinMarketCap has intentionally posted three bogus SHIB contract addresses. Interacting with these addresses will result in the loss of your money indefinitely.”

CoinMarketCap responded by stating that the addresses were wormhole addresses meant to allow cross-chain transactions. While the addresses are no longer available, the warning may still be found on the site’s SHIB token main page. CoinMarketCap has not given an explanation for the removal of the wormhole addresses.

In a community letter released on January 19, the Shiba Inu creators appear to have recognized this explanation.

However, the SHIB developers believed that CoinMarketCap acted unprofessionally during their correspondence, such as their lack of communication and use of “display of erroneous contracts,” “incorrect social media links,” “incorrect display of circulating supply,” and so on, as reasonings for standing by their claim that the contracts are “fake.”
