Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi stated that customers would be able to pay fares in digital assets, although he did not provide a specific date.
“I think right now what we see with Bitcoin and some of the other cryptos that they are quite valuable as a store of value,” Khosrowshahi said. “The exchange mechanism is expensive, it’s not great for the environment,” he said.
He added: “As the exchange mechanism becomes less expensive, becomes more environmentally friendly, I think you will see us lean into crypto a little bit more.”
According to Khosrowshahi, it is just a matter of time until Uber accepts cryptocurrency, but “this isn’t the right point.”
Although the strong development of the cryptocurrency market in recent years, major corporations have been slow to accept cryptocurrency during transactions. Back in 2014, Microsoft began taking Bitcoin as a means of payment in its online shop.
