Opera has announced integration with DeversiFi, a solution powered by StarkWare. The integration will make Opera for Android the first mobile browser with an Ethereum Layer 2 wallet.
Opera’s integration with DeversiFi will provide Opera users with a decentralized finance (DeFi) capability, giving them access to low-cost and near-instant transactions without data thanks to DeversiFi’s decentralized exchanges. The integration comes at a time when Decentralized Finance is seeing exponential growth in popularity.
This, along with the development of NFT, has led to significantly higher transaction fees on Ethereum. Integration with the Layer 2 scaling solution through Opera’s partnership with DeversiFi allows Opera users to send and receive ETH faster and cheaper via p2p transactions, along with Layer 2 swaps.
About the integration with Opera, Harborne, co-founder and CEO of DeversiFi said:
“This integration allows everyday Opera users to seamlessly interact with DeFi in an easy-to-use interface and experience a whole new way of interacting with financial services. Layer 2 technology is revolutionizing the blockchain industry, and we’re proud to partner with Opera to offer millions of users a seamless, cost-effective commercial solution, combined with the benefits of StarkEx’s scalability. Integrating our DeFi infrastructure in this way is just the beginning and changes the scale of the overall Tier 2 adoption.”
Powered by StarkWare’s StarkEx extension engine, DeversiFi makes transactions conducted over Layer 2 solutions almost instantaneously and nearly a hundred times cheaper than transactions conducted over Ethereum’s Layer 1.
Opera is one of the pioneers when it comes to bringing cryptocurrency to the masses and popularity, and the move fits perfectly with Opera’s current strategy. Opera introduced the first browser with an integrated crypto wallet and a decentralized application explorer (dApp) in 2018. It has also integrated several other blockchains like Bitcoin and Celo, which allows it to introduce fiat-on-crypto browser launchers and bring crypto to both iOS and desktop browsers.
Opera has also launched the Crypto Browser project beta, a third web browsing experience that will also integrate Layer 2 solutions.
Jürgen Arnesen, one of Opera’s managing directors, said the following about Opera’s plans:
“Easy access to the internet is part of Opera’s DNA. We offer extreme data saving, privacy protection or ad blocking features to our users around the world. Now is the time to remove one of the biggest barriers to using the internet3: exorbitant gas costs and slow internet speeds.”
The integration between Opera and DeversiFi was made possible through a partnership with Gateway.fm. Gateway.fm led the integration and enabled Opera to complete DeversiFi’s existing infrastructure in less time than anticipated based on market and liquidity.
