“Stand by the Ukrainian people,” one government official tweeted.
Ukraine Seeks Crypto Donations To Fight Russian Attack
The Eastern European country’s official Twitter account posted a tweet last night announcing that they are now accepting donations in Bitcoin, Ethereum and Tether with links to Bitcoin and Ethereum addresses. The address has now received 9.2 Bitcoin (about $361,000), 83 Ethereum (about $232,000), and about $20,000 in other digital assets.

The first tweet raised some skepticism that the Ukrainian account might have been hacked. Vitalik Buterin tweeted a warning against sending any crypto donations, commenting that it “could be a hack.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov also tweeted about two crypto addresses last night, showing that unless the hacker successfully targets both accounts, the metering request is legitimate.
Cryptocurrency users have donated millions of dollars to Ukraine in the past few days following the Russian military attack. An NGO called Come Back Alive received $5.8 million in Bitcoin, while Ethereum enthusiasts launched a DAO called UkraineDAO to raise funds. In particular, the Department of Defense is not legally permitted to accept cryptocurrencies.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced earlier Thursday that he had ordered an attack on Ukraine after weeks of tension. Since then, many protests have occurred in major cities around the world in solidarity with Ukraine. It was reported on Friday that more than 1,700 protesters had been arrested in Russia.
The crypto community has also criticized Russia’s attack on Ukraine in the past few days. Sam Bankman-Fried, Vitalik Buterin and others spoke out against the conflict this week.
“Reminder: Ethereum is neutral, but I’m not,” Buterin tweeted after declaring that he was “so upset with Putin’s decision” in a tweet written in Russian.
Meanwhile, Sam Bankman-Fried notification will give $25 to every Ukrainian user to boost the nation’s spirit at war. In addition, he donated 250,000 USDT to the ERC-20 wallet address of the Ukrainian government
