Gavin Wood donates $5.7 million to DOT after Ukraine releases address

As the war in Ukraine continued and flared up, with dire consequences for innocent people, many individuals and organizations around the world donated to the Ukrainian war effort and the armed forces that defended the country against their Russian enemies.

Users in the crypto space are equally generous with their donations and tens of millions of dollars have been sent to various crypto addresses from charities and the Ukrainian government. . The official Ukrainian Twitter account posted both Bitcoin and Ethereum addresses for donors to send crypto.

In a response to Ukraine’s tweet, Gavin Wood, co-founder of Ethereum and founder of Polkadot, said, tweet that he will send $5 million when Ukraine publishes the address of DOT – the native token of the Polkadot ecosystem.

Wood’s response drew some criticism, as it could be interpreted that if Wood couldn’t send a DOT, he put a condition on the donation and wouldn’t do it. However, some have also suggested that Wood’s reaction could be due to tax concerns, as the move from DOT to ETH could be a taxable event.

At Wood’s suggestion, the Ukrainian Twitter account has now posted the DOT address:

“The people of Ukraine are grateful for the support and contributions of the global crypto community as we defend our freedoms. We are now also accepting Polkadot donations: $DOT:1x8aa2N2Ar9SQweJv9vsuZn3WYDHu7gMQu1RePjZuBe33Hv. More cryptocurrencies will be accepted soon.”

Shortly after, the founder of Polkadot donated 298,367,2269896686 DOT, which is about $5.7 million. As proof of his donation, Wood published the relevant transaction.
