According to blockchain addresses, Ukraine has begun to airdrop the so-called WORLD tokens to eligible users.
Those who donated bitcoins to charities seeking to improve the lives of those harmed by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine would receive WORLD.
Ukraine announced the airdrop Wednesday, after receiving $33 million in various cryptocurrencies from international donors. Within hours of the airdrop announcement, more than $7 million in donations had been made.
At the time of writing, a Uniswap pool has been set up. User orders are already being traded and front-run by automated bots.
The Ukrainian government has confirmed an airdrop for anyone who contributes to its crypto donations by 11 am ET on Thursday, March 3. The potential reward for the global community of donors foreshadows new potential use cases for crypto across mainstream audiences.
For context, airdrops involve businesses or crypto projects providing free tokens or NFTs to their communities as a way to encourage adoption — in this case, to increase donations to the country. The government has not provided additional information about what Thursday’s airdrop will entail.
