Cryptocurrency exchange FTX has acquired Good Luck Games, the creators of the forthcoming card fighting game Storybook Brawl. Following the acquisition, Good Luck Games will be incorporated into FTX Gaming.
Last month, it was announced that ]the crypto exchange platform was developing a gaming unit to encourage game creators to accept cryptocurrencies via a “crypto-as-a-service” platform.
Good Luck Titles, situated in Olympia, Washington, was founded in 2019 by four senior card game designers and former professional players with connections to the games Magic: The Gathering and The Elder Scrolls: Legends.
Storybook Brawl is a card-based auto-battler game with fairytale and mythological characters that is now in early access on Steam. The game is intended to be simple to play, but the diversity of cards allows for more strategic game play as well as the creation of blockchain-backed digital game assets.
The smartphone version of Storybook Brawl is set to be released this summer.
FTX CEO and co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried wrote:
“We’re excited to explore what the intersection of [non-fungible tokens], crypto, blockchain and gaming looks like. But we’re even more excited to see where Storybook goes. Our mission is to help them build the best games they can – with as much (or little!) integration with FTX as they want.”
In the past, gamers have responded negatively to the incorporation of blockchain-based elements in traditional games. When Ubisoft introduced in-game NFTs late last year, it received criticism.
