YG Flexing His $30M BTC Stash In New Music Video “Scared Money”

Dequan Keenon In his latest music video, Ray Jackson, better known by his stage moniker YG, appears to flaunt a huge $30 million stack of Bitcoin (BTC).

Because a cold storage device from crypto wallet company Ledger is prominently featured in the video, it appears to be either an eye-watering — but perhaps artificial — flex or a smart bit of product placement. Ledger’s social media crew was also quick to respond:

YG is shown carrying a Ledger wallet close to a smartphone with a screen bearing a wallet app with more than $30.6 million worth of BTC in it in one of the sequences of the music video for the song “Scared Money” starring J. Cole and Moneybagg Yo.

While the image could have been fabricated, rappers are notorious for flaunting their wealth and success, which is especially true in this song, which is about spending money, investing, and putting half a million dollars worth of jewelry around one’s neck.

YG is a big proponent of Bitcoin

As seen by the fact that he mentions possessing digital gold in many songs, including 2018’s “Big Bank.”

During that interview YG said that he liked the simplicity of hodling crypto as he could invest his money into the asset class without being distracted from his music career. He drew comparisons to the real estate market, where he would have to spend a lot time working and learn to do it successfully.

“I f*ck with Bitcoin. […] I got Ethereum recently and I got Dogecoin recently but I’ve had Bitcoin for about three years. […] Bitcoin came around and it was like ‘what?’ and I can just do it and it turns into that?” he said in reference to the booming price of the asset last year.

In recent years, crypto has attracted a large number of artists, with legends like Jay Z and NFT-bull Snoop Dogg both investing heavily in the space. Meek Mill, who bought Dogecoin during the excitement last year, Nas, who tokenized his music as NFTs earlier this year, and Post Malone, who included a Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT in one of his latest music videos, are all well-known personalities who have jumped on the gravy train.
