Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, has donated $5 million in Ethereum to two foundations that help Ukraine fight Russian forces. The two fundraising organizations have announced this large donation on April 6 via their official Twitter accounts.
Buterin made no mention of his donations and that the community were only discovered owing to his registered Ethereum Name Service (ENS) domain name, ‘vitalik.eth.’
A few days ago, he has been quietly supporting a DAO that raised $8 million in cryptocurrencies for Ukraine.
When the Russia-Ukraine war began, Buterin has stated clearly that he supports the Ukraine side, despite his Russian-Canadian citizen. He tweeted a few minutes after the military actions of Russia in Ukraine:
“Very upset by Putin’s decision to abandon the possibility of a peaceful solution to the dispute with Ukraine and go to war instead. This is a crime against the Ukrainian and Russian people. I want to wish everyone security, although I know that there will be no security. Glory to Ukraine.”
He also reminded the crypto community that Ethereum is just a blockchain platform, it is neutral, but he is not.
Russia has launched “a full-scale invasion” in Ukraine. Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the country will defend itself from Putin’s “war of aggression.”
