Blue-chip NFT project Bored Ape Yacht Club will own a trilogy film series produced by the largest US crypto exchange Coinbase.
The three-part film was created by Coinbase’s entertainment team as a homage to the Bored Ape Yacht Club community. BAYC holders can submit their apes to the Degen Trilogy website for a chance to be cast, with submissions being judged by the film’s director and a casting director. In June, the first of three chapters of “The Degen Trilogy,” a series of animated short films, will premiere at NFT.NYC.
Non-Bored Ape owners may still visit the Degen Trilogy website with a Coinbase Wallet account to get updates on the film’s progress, including plot drops, surprises, sweepstakes, and easter eggs. Users may also vote on the storyline of their favourite ape and contribute to the series’ development.
Coinbase entertainment and culture marketing director William Swann commented on the project: “We are dedicated to creating and supporting content projects that speak directly to our community and sustaining the culture of web3 innovation. As we aim to bring the next billion people into the crypto economy, we firmly believe that this interactive film series will act as a catalyst to serve that mission and help audiences understand the collaborative nature of web3.”
In March, Yuga Labs, the business behind the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection, bought CryptoPunks and Meebits from developer Larva Labs after 24 hours of rumours and internet discussion. This means that they’re now own the brands, copyright in the art, and other IP rights for both top NFT collections. Larva Labs says it will keep the rights to Autoglyphs, its other large NFT collection, “as well as a number of our favorite Punks and Meebs.” This deal came about in a very organic way from conversations between their partner Guy Oseary and the Larva Labs founders.
