The Sandbox Partners with Apex Athletes

nWay, the creator of Apex Athletes and a fellow subsidiary of Animoca Brands, is partnering with The Sandbox to inject utility into selected Apex Athletes. The Shaun White, Nathan Chen, Chloe Kim, Lindsey Vonn, and Ayumu Hirano Apex Athletes NFTs will also unlock exclusive avatar skins in The Sandbox. The nWay x Sandbox collaboration is the first of a series of utilities announced to be added to Apex Athletes as nWay will continue to develop new projects as well as collaborate with projects within the Animoca Brands family.

Apex Athletes will be available for initial sale on apexathletes.io and will be available for trading on major exchanges, such as OpenSea. The mint price for Apex Athletes is 0.07 ETH and will be available for sale to the public next Tuesday, April 26. An early private sale will be held on this Thursday, April 21 with the private sale price of 0.05 ETH. Owners of selected Apex Athletes (Shaun White, Nathan Chen, Chloe Kim, Lindsey Vonn, and Ayumu Hirano) will be able to unlock exclusive avatar skins in The Sandbox.

The Sandbox is purportedly gathering $400 million from new and existing investors at a valuation of $4 billion. According to Bloomberg, the round is still being considered, and parameters such as the size and valuation could vary depending on market mood and investor interest.

The announcement comes less than six months after SoftBank’s Vision Fund 2 led a $93 million Series B financing for the platform. Other past investors include True Global Ventures, Square Enix, Galaxy Interactive, and Angelhub, according to Crunchbase.
