Australia Zoo, a wildlife conservatory linked with the family of renowned environmentalist Steve Irwin, has released a non-fungible token (NFT) series on the green blockchain Algorand to mark the 20th anniversary of their Wildlife Warriors conservation effort.
The NFTs will be utility-driven, randomly generated images based on an Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors animal that Meadow Labs in Australia produced in partnership with.
Claiming to charge only a little amount of gas and transaction fees, which are then transformed into carbon credits.
In a statement, Robert Irwin, son of the late Steve Irwin, said, “This green chain and modern technology enable us a new channel to continue to fight for the protection of our species and wild areas.”
Species Warriors was formed in 2002 by Steve Irwin, called “The Crocodile Hunter,” and his wife Terri Irwin as a way to include “caring individuals” in conservation initiatives “in the protection of damaged, threatened, or endangered wildlife.”
The release date for the NFT series will be announced in the coming weeks.
Algorand, a blockchain-based cryptocurrency platform with its own native cryptocurrency, ALGO, is making waves in the cryptocurrency market as a new altcoin.
Algorand “re-imagines” blockchain by addressing some of Bitcoin’s biggest faults, such as slow transactions and high mining fees. Its goal is to ensure that transactions are secure, rapid, and auditable.
