In the run-up to the 33rd annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WDDC), which begins on June 6, tech giant Apple has announced plans to reveal the development of four new devices and software models: iOS 15, iPadOS 15, macOS Monterey, and watchOS 8.
Along with this, enthusiast forums like MacRumours, which focus on supporting and arguing Apple’s progress, discovered that by clicking on the memoji characters, an augmented reality mode with three trading card characters available to be claimed is revealed.
Over the last few years, the memoji characters have become a consistent fixture in Apple’s consumer branding strategy, as the business realized the cultural affiliation with memes and mascot brand promotion.
At WWDC, these cards are expected to be marketed as collecting Web2 elements with no intrinsic or transferable value.
The Easter egg feature, however, has aroused some conjecture within the nonfungible token (NFT) community about the possibilities of future Apple NFTs due to their visual similarities to the avatars of RTFKT Studios’ CloneX and animated cards of Gary Vaynerchuk’s VeeFriends Series 2.
During Apple’s Q1 2022 earnings call, CEO Tim Cook expressed optimism about the societal adoption of augmented reality and metaverse technologies, stating that the company intends to “invest accordingly” in the emerging area.
Apple‘s mixed-reality headset, which will have both virtual and augmented reality capabilities, was supposed to be released during the WWDC conference, but after facing technical problems in development, that scenario appears doubtful.
RealityOS, the putative operating software for the mixed-reality headset, was recently trademarked by the business.
