Kanye West’s Yeezus brand has filed 17 trademark applications indicating a possible move into the NFT space.
While it’s only just filed and doesn’t show any actual plans yet, these latest developments are causing particular interest due to Ye’s headline comments about space NFT last year.
“Don’t ask me to do a damn NFT,” Ye said in a handwritten note shared on Instagram earlier this year. In the same letter, Ye said his focus at the time was “building real products with real words.”
But until May 27, through Mascotte Holdings, Inc., Yeezus (first discovered by trademark attorney Josh Gerben) filed multiple US federal trademark applications for Yeezus late last month.
Potential uses listed among the listings include board games, action figures, Christmas tree decorations, masks, retail, computer goods, plush toy accessories, check-in services, nail polish, facial makeup, video game software, amusement park games, etc.
Of particular note in the latest collection are mentions of a “super reverse experience” and the potential to “provide an online marketplace for buyers of blockchain-based irreplaceable items.”
It remains unclear whether there is an immediate intention to use the marks and how to use them. Applications are on a 1B basis, which means there is an intention to use the spot in the future, but the applicant does not have to detail when that is. This is in contrast to the 1A application, which is filed when the mark has already been used.
