Vitalik Buterin – the genius who created Ethereum

Indeed, everyone knows Vitalik Buterin is one of the “fathers” of ETH. However, it can be said that he is the “soul” of the project and a critical “piece” in the journey to make the Ethereum ecosystem grow stronger and stronger.

Who is Vitalik Buterin?

Vitalik Buterin is a well-known face in the crypto and blockchain community. He has continued to lead the development and advocacy of the blockchain technology movement.

Vitalik was born on January 31, 1994, in the ancient city of Kolomna, located about 100km southeast of Moscow. His father, Dmitry, is a computer scientist. In 2000, when Vitalik was 6 years old, his family moved from Russia to Canada. Vitalik has always had the expression of a young prodigy, and when he was in the third grade of elementary school, his ability to learn was soon noticed, and he was later placed in his school’s gifted class.

The boy’s genius qualities began to manifest from then on. By the age of 7, Vitalik Buterin was able to build an entire world of his own with rabbits “ruled” by complex coding formulas.

By the age of 10, he could write the C++ programming language, a form of knowledge that would be difficult for adults but nothing for this genius child.

He developed an aptitude for mathematics, economics, and computer programming. He began attending Abelard School, a prestigious private high school in the Toronto area of Canada. He spent four years at Abelard School, where he demonstrated his academic ability and superhuman intellect.

In 2012, he was accepted to the University of Waterloo but dropped out the following year. Vitalik Buterin dropped out of school to focus on his crypto career, and later that year, he wrote and published the Ethereum whitepaper.

The original idea came from the game World of Warcraft.

In 2007, Vitalik Buterin was a fan of the online role-playing game World of Warcraft. From 2007 to 2010, Vitalik spent hours collecting weapons and leveling up in the game. It all came to a halt in 2010 when Blizzard removed the warlock character’s Siphon Life magic damage from the competition. Vitalik admits he was so profoundly affected by the event that he even cried at night.

However, Vitalik Buterin realized that all authority is concentrated in one entity, which is a bad thing. It can be said that this thought is the first foundation for his future direction: creating a decentralized, decentralized world.

Getting Started with Bitcoin

Vitalik was first exposed to Bitcoin through his father. However, it has not yet caught his attention because of the thought that if the currency has no intrinsic value, it will sooner or later fail.

However, his contacts left him more impressed because Bitcoin and blockchain technology have shown a possible alternative to the centralization that, according to Vitalik, is the cause of all the problems in the world.

To participate in this new economy, Vitalik Buterin needs to own some tokens but cannot afford to buy BTC or equip a miner. That’s why he earned coins by writing articles for forums. After each post, Vitalik gets 5 BTC.

Thanks to his professional writing style and good knowledge base, his articles have attracted Mihai Alisie – a Bitcoin enthusiast from Romania. After meeting and chatting, the two joined hands to found Bitcoin Magazine at the end of 2011.

In May 2013, as a representative of Bitcoin Magazine, he participated in a Bitcoin-related conference held in California.

The moment of realization

Seeing people flocking to the conference with the same idea that money and data can be powerfully decentralized was impressive. It motivated the young man to go further in the industry.

Thanks to that trip, he realized that this community is developing very strongly and gathering a lot of genius minds. And just a few weeks later, Vitalik Buterin decided to stop studying at the University of Waterloo to focus on his career.

Ethereum appears

With nearly 2 years of experience writing about Bitcoin and getting feedback from the Bitcoin community, he is beginning to see blockchain technology’s potential to support more than just a payment processing system.

He was unsuccessful in coming up with the idea of creating a more application-friendly built Bitcoin core network that would allow the creation of practical, decentralized applications without the need for layered procedures function.

Vitalik has embarked on an entirely new blockchain. Instead of using the ‘th’ coding language that Satoshi Nakamoto used, Vitalik Buterin uses a more robust and refined Turing-complete programming language.

This means that the new Blockchain could theoretically support any use case directly from building the core network without any layering. Vitalik wrote the whitepaper for the new Blockchain and named it Ethereum.

There were no criticisms or corrections as Vitalik Buterin had thought. Instead, two weeks later, about 30 people reached out to Vitalik to discuss the concept.

Some of them are big names like:

Anthony Di Iorio: Early Bitcoin Investor, Later Ethereum Project Co-Founder

Gavin Wood: A programmer who invented Solidity; co-founder of the later Ethereum project

Charles Hoskinson: co-founder of the Ethereum project and will continue to create Cardano in the future

The number of members in this small group increased dramatically after the 2014 Bitcoin Miami conference, where Buterin first revealed the Ethereum project to the public. Hundreds of investors and enthusiasts lined up to talk to him.

Resounding success

The next step on the momentum of a strong response from the public. A few months later, Vitalik Buterin decided to hold an ICO for ETH to fund the development. Also, around this time, he received a grant from a Thiel Fellowship worth $100,000

After raising 31,000 BTC (~$18 million at the time) from the community, the Ethereum Foundation was established in Switzerland to oversee the development of the Ethereum open-source software.

On July 30, 2015, the first public version of Ethereum named ‘Frontier’ was released, but this is just a beta. Once both the developer and the auditor confirm everything is stable, the platform is moved to the ‘Homestead’ version.

On March 14, 2016, the Ethereum network released the first official version, creating the next generation of Blockchain, giving more freedom to developers, and making it easier to use.
