Yuga Labs, the creators of two of the most popular ape-themed non-fungible token offerings (NFTs) – Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and OtherSide – witnessed a rally Another staged phishing attack with investors losing over 145 Ether (ETH) or nearly $260,000 at the time of writing.
OKHotshot, a blockchain detective and member of the Crypto Twitter community, has warned crypto investors about the intrusion of two official Discord groups affiliated with BAYC and OtherSide NFT.
The attack was carried out by hacking into the Discord account of Boris Vagner, community and social manager of Yuga Labs.
After gaining unrestricted access to employees’ accounts, scammers shared various phishing links from Vagner’s Discord account to BAYC’s official groups, Mutant Ape Yacht Club ( MAYC) and others.
Many users in the Discord group, unwary of the ongoing scam, have fallen for scam messages that promise limited quantity giveaways to be offered to existing NFT holders – as evidenced by screenshots screen above.
Concluding the investigation, OKHotshot revealed recently compromised NFTs wallets and transfers, making BAYC the second victim of an attack in two weeks.
On May 25, a member of Proof Collective lost 29 high-value Ethereum-based Moonbirds NFTs worth $1.5 million in an ongoing scam.
While the total damage surrounding this hack is still unclear, the recent crypto scams are a stark wake-up call for NFT holders to exercise caution when dealing with third-party platforms. third and double-check anything shared by others, even if they appear to be trustworthy.
