A 19-Year-Old Artist Has Made Approximately $50M From Selling His NFTs

Victor Langlois, a transgender artist, is said to have made approximately $50 million from the sale of his non-fungible tokens in just over a year.

According to NBC News, the 19-year-old artist came to popularity after his physical artworks and NFTs were sold for $2.16 million at a New York auction house. “Hello, I’m Victor (FEWOCiOUS) and This is My Life” was the title of the collection, which focused on Victor’s youth and gender transition.

Langlois has since gone on to sell more high-profile NFT paintings, including approximately $20 million worth of digital art in less than 24 hours in April. According to the article, the sale was the third-largest in NFT marketplace Nifty Gateway’s history.

Langlois told Fortune at the time:

It’s been hard for me to process, to be honest. The dream isn’t to relax and do nothing, the dream is to draw.

According to NBC’s article at the time, Langlois’ first NFT collection centered on his life from the ages of 14 to 18, including his experience being rescued from an abusive environment and living with his grandparents in Las Vegas. Langlois admitted that he was hesitant to tell his religious family that he was transgender at the time.

In June 2021, he reportedly told Christie’s that his grandmother struggled to understand his artistic aspirations, claiming that she anticipated him pursuing a more solid career path:

To see me wanting to pursue art, she was like: ‘What? Be a lawyer.’ Which I understand. But it hurt when she would say, ‘Your art is ugly and that’s why you can’t do it.’

His dream, he told Fortune, is to “draw” rather than “relax and do nothing.”
