Overview
ERC-1155 is a multi-token standard developed by Enjin for the Ethereum ecosystem. Unlike earlier standards such as ERC-20 (for fungible tokens) and ERC-721 (for non-fungible tokens), ERC-1155 enables a single deployed smart contract to manage an unlimited number of fungible, semi-fungible, and non-fungible tokens simultaneously.
Key Features
- Multi-Token Management: A single smart contract can handle multiple token types, drastically reducing gas costs and contract deployment complexity.
- Batch Transfers: Users can transfer multiple distinct token IDs in a single transaction, streamlining user operations and saving network fees.
- Enhanced Security: Includes safety features such as transfer hooks and verification routines to prevent tokens from being accidentally locked or lost when sent to non-compliant addresses.
- Efficiency: Reduces overall blockspace consumption on the network compared to managing separate contracts for each asset type.
Primary Use Cases
- Web3 Gaming: Managing diverse in-game assets—such as currency (fungible), stackable consumables (semi-fungible), and unique items (NFTs)—within one contract.
- Digital Collectibles: Creating large collections with varied rarities and edition sizes under a single unified protocol.
