<p>The Graph is a protocol for indexing and querying data from blockchains, starting with Ethereum. Developers build applications with open APIs called subgraphs to easily access on-chain data that is indexed by a network of node operators. Subgraphs are open source so anyone can use the APIs to build decentralized applications. Many Ethereum applications have already built subgraphs and use them today including: Audius, Uniswap, Opyn, ENS, DAOstack, Synthetix, Moloch and more.</p>

<p>Over 20,000 developers have contributed to developing subgraphs across more than 20 chains. <p class="css-oyuu9s">The Graph learns what and how to index Ethereum data based on subgraph descriptions, known as the subgraph manifest. The subgraph description defines the smart contracts of interest for a subgraph, the events in those contracts to pay attention to, and how to map event data to data that The Graph will store in its database.</p>

<li>Graph Node finds Ethereum events for your subgraph in these blocks and runs the mapping handlers you provided. The mapping is a WASM module that creates or updates the data entities that Graph Node stores in response to Ethereum events.</li>
<li>The decentralized application queries the Graph Node for data indexed from the blockchain, using the node's&nbsp;<a class="css-oi25hg" href="https://graphql.org/learn/">GraphQL endpoint</a>. The Graph Node in turn translates the GraphQL queries into queries for its underlying data store in order to fetch this data, making use of the store's indexing capabilities. <h2 id="section-0">What is Fei Protocol?</h2>
<p>Prior to delving into Fei Protocol, I'd like to discuss the current state of stablecoins in the market.</p>
<p>Due to the convenience and popularity of USDT, USDC, and BUSD stablecoins, we, as retail users, primarily interact with them in almost all DeFi activities. But these stablecoins are issued by centralized entities.</p>
<p>As a result, this stablecoin concept is diametrically opposed to the blockchain's original concept of decentralization and there are concerns about these stablecoins; thus, a "more" decentralised stablecoin is required to address this issue.</p>
<p>DAI is the first solution. It's a type of over-collateralized stablecoin that's issued entirely on-chain. A user needs to deposit assets like ETH or BTC in order to mint a portion of DAI that can be used for various purposes. However, there are still some issues. Over-collateralization of DAI leads to problems with capital efficiency. Consequently, large-scale expansion for DAI is challenging.</p>
<p>Fei Protocol introduced the FEI stable coin in January 2021 as a brand-new concept aimed at resolving the problems listed above.</p>

The firm behind the protocol is PureStake, a development outfit that also built developer tools for Algorand and runs Polkadot validators. PureStake began work on Moonbeam in early 2020. The network also receives support from the Moonbeam Foundation.</p>
