Verdict

The product half is excellent: certified secure element, genuinely non-custodial, the category's deepest app ecosystem, and the best phone-first workflow Ledger sells. The trust half carries real deductions that a 2026 review cannot leave unpriced — a customer-data breach whose phishing fallout is still active six years on, a firmware-trust controversy that contradicted the company's own security messaging, and a closed secure-element OS that keeps independent verification off the table. Add a chip one certification tier behind its own $59 sibling and the Nano X lands level with the Nano S Plus and below the Flex, whose premium buys mobility and nothing else.

Pros
  • Bluetooth plus USB-C, true phone-first signing
  • CC EAL5+ secure element with ANSSI CSPN
  • 500+ coins native, thousands via third party
  • Up to 100 device apps installed at once
  • Non-custodial, no KYC, sold worldwide
Cons
  • $99, above the EAL6+ Nano S Plus
  • Older EAL5+ chip, the S Plus carries EAL6+
  • Secure-element OS and firmware are closed
  • 2020 breach feeds phishing still active in 2026
  • Small non-touch OLED, battery needs upkeep
