Bitcoin.org, the internet domain associated with the first BTC, was formed on August 18, 2008, as part of AnonymousSpeech, a Japanese business that allowed users to purchase domain names anonymously. Domain acquisitions under AnonymousSpeech on comparable timings showed the foundation of Netcoin.org on Aug. 17, 2008 – barely a day before Bitcoin.org.
Following more investigation, crypto locksmith Or Weinberger determined that no material was ever available on the Netcoin.org domain except when it was later repurchased by another person.
The choice to continue with Bitcoin may have been critical to its success because many members of the crypto community expressed displeasure with the name Netcoin:
The discovery further distances Bitcoin from the persons who previously claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto. In 2010, the Netcoin.org domain was removed and re-registered to a subsidiary of Web.com.
At the time of writing, BTC is trading at $19,000.
