Optimism Introduces Modular Components OP Stack

Ethereum Layer-2 solution Optimism introduced the OP Stack, a set of modular components that can be assembled to build custom chains to fit any use case. It’s a series of modules that work together to form coherent, reliable blockchains.

Optimism said that via shared sequencing and messaging layers, the boundaries between the op-chains of the future might dissolve, resulting in a logical chain Superchain.

The OP Stack is a modular, open-source blueprint for all kinds of highly scalable, highly interoperable blockchains. Not just rollup. Not just optimistic.

The OP Stack is a bet on the ingenuity of the entire Ethereum community. It makes it easier to build a blockchain, empowering users to focus on what matters–the cutting edge.

It is also the code that drives Optimism’s next-generation architecture. It is a collection of components that work together to create cohesive, dependable blockchains. Each of these components is responsible for implementing a different stack tier.

Here are some examples of these essential components:

Each tier of the OP Stack has a well-defined API that must be provided by a module for that layer. Users may simply alter existing modules or create whole new modules to meet the requirements of any application they are developing.

The OP Stack is the first practical application of modular blockchain theory. It’s being constructed for the Optimism Collective. The OP Stack does this mostly by abstracting the proof layer when settling money onto another chain.

The proof layer can be included in the system as long as it fulfills the proof API. All of this may occur with no influence on the user experience. Long-term, this allows Optimism to adapt to newer proof systems as well.
