Manchester United Accused Of Copying Artist DesLucrece NFTs

Key Points:

  • Manchester United’s NFT collection has been criticised for being too similar to the work of famous NFT artist DesLucrece.
  • DesLucrece stated that he, Tezos, and Manchester United are discussing a solution to the problem.
A well-known NFT artist known for his vibrant animated monsters has been compared to an official collection from the Manchester United Football Club that appears a little too much like his work.

A Twitter named ClownVamp criticized Manchester United for the similarities between its “The Devils” collection and the work of DesLucrece, the pseudonymous name of an NFT artist renowned for the Des Monsters collection, which presently has an OpenSea floor price of 17.5 ETH, or $20,825. A colour scheme, similar eyes, and horns are shared by virtually identical figures in a side-by-side comparison.

We need answers. This is total garbage.

Following the accusation, ClownVamp also claimed one of the DesLucrece signature traits that his monsters usually have O ring earrings also has been seen in the products from the Manchester United collection.

DesLucrece then stated on Twitter that he and Breitman are discussing a solution and are expecting a response from Manchester United. While noting that he wanted to protect art and artists on the Tezos platform.

I think the resolution here should be beneficial for everyone involved, Dinner with Ronaldo isn’t off the table.

On the following day, DesLucrece announced that correspondence between him and ManU had started. He had called the Manchester United team while saying that was probably the last update on this for a while since everyone is still on holiday.

In times of adversity, you’ll know who your friends are. Thank you, Tezos community.

Manchester United first collaborated with the Tezos Foundation earlier this year, and The Devils was published on December 21. The collection of 7,777 NFTs, each costing around $36, has since sold out.
