CryptoPunk #2681, the pixelated punk in question, is a purple cap-wearing zombie with blue ‘clown eyes,’ all of which are distinctive characteristics.
MoonPay obtained the item through an account related to their ‘concierge’ service. The business has diligently brokered large-ticket NFT transactions on behalfs of celebrities like Snoop Dogg, Martin Garrix, Diplo, and Jimmy Fallon through this arrangement.
MoonPay has primarily traded in objects from the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collection. Its business model has been to buy apes, ship them to celebrity customers’ locations, and then bill them for the expense. The concierge service has also assisted celebrities such as Post Malone with bitcoin investments.
MoonPay now looks to be preparing for punk action. According to OpenSea statistics, it also purchased CryptoPunk #4222 around a month ago, and it now owns a second punk after today’s 900 ether purchase.
According to the statistics portal CryptoSlam, the CryptoPunks collection is the most sought-after set in the non-fungible token (NFT) market, having produced about $1.9 billion in sales so far.
According to DappRadar statistics, the sale of punk #2681 is the eighth biggest in the collection’s history.
