Senegal is a member of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) and uses the CFA franc regulated by the BCEAO. The BCEAO issued warnings in 2018 cautioning against crypto use in the WAEMU zone. There is no formal ban, but financial institutions are restricted from facilitating crypto transactions. Senegal is developing a CBDC (e-CFA) and exploring blockchain for development projects.
