Vitalik Buterin Predicts That The Facebook Metaverse “Will Misfire”
Vitalik Buterin has said that he doubts any “existing corporate attempts” to create a Metaverse will succeed.
Vitalik Buterin refuses to believe in Meta’s Metaverse
According to Vitalik Buterin, any businesses trying to create the Metaverse at this time will fail.
On Twitter early on Sunday, the Ethereum developer offered his viewpoint on the potential direction of the young industry and expressed his belief that businesses attempting to build the Metaverse are unlikely to be successful. He stated that he believes the Metaverse “is going to happen,” but he also believed that “none of the existing corporate endeavors to purposely construct the metaverse are going anywhere.”
The parent corporation of Facebook, Meta, renamed as part of a shift to embrace the Metaverse late last year. Meta is without a doubt the most famous corporate actor to have shown interest in the Metaverse to yet. Buterin namechecked Meta in his critique of the corporates entering the space.
“Anything Facebook creates now will misfire,” he wrote in response to a tweet, arguing that Metaverse-focused companies would likely fail because “it’s far too early to know what people actually want.”
Buterin has earned a reputation for being vocal as Ethereum and his public profile have risen over time, even though he frequently uses his blog and Twitter account to talk about Ethereum’s technology and how decentralization might affect the world. Though he has previously made lengthy comments about NFTs, expressing amazement at the 2021 boom and making veiled jabs at the speculative side of the industry, he has rarely addressed the Metaverse.
