Meta Horizon Metaverse Software From Meta VP Sharma Departs The Business

According to a corporate spokesperson quoted by CNBC on Friday, Vivek Sharma, vice president of Meta Horizon social media virtual reality (VR) platform, is leaving the organization.

Sharma had held a number of positions at Meta for six years.

According to the study, Sharma handled VR initiatives such as the Horizon Workrooms, Horizon Venues, and Horizon Worlds social media service.

Vivek Sharma, vice president of Meta Horizon social networking virtual reality platform, said Friday that he is quitting the organization.

Sharma has worked with Facebook’s parent company Meta for the past six years, holding key leadership roles in gaming, the marketplace, and most recently, its newly formed business unit focused on the metaverse.

Sharma, a vice president at Horizon and a resident of the Seattle region, led several VR initiatives, including the Horizon Worlds social media platform, which is comparable to the online game Second Life that has been converted to virtual reality. Other Horizon products include the VR-based office collaboration tool Horizon Workrooms and the live event software Horizon Venues, which this summer was included into the main Worlds app.

“Thanks to his leadership, the Horizon product group has built a strong team with an ambitious vision, and it is just getting started,” a Meta spokesperson said in a statement. “Meta continues to be a source for developing great leaders, and we’re excited to see what Vivek accomplishes in his next chapter.”

Meta Horizon will now be directly responsible for overseeing the Horizon team

The next step in computing, according to Meta, is the metaverse, a collection of virtual worlds that users of VR and associated augmented reality technology can explore.

The new VR headset from Meta will be unveiled in October, which is also the month that Meta regularly organizes its Connect VR conference, according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a recent edition of the podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience.”
