Korea And Meta Platforms Discuss Safety Enhancement Measures On Metaverse

South Korea’s official media regulator met Andy O’Connell, vice president of product policy and strategy at Meta Platforms, Inc. to discuss ways to enhance user protection on the metaverse. The purpose of the cooperation will be active in the prevention of crime on this platform.

According to reports in the local media, O’Connell and Meta (formerly known as Facebook Inc.) were encouraged to work together on safety in developing virtual platforms like the metaverse by Ahn Hyoung-hwan, the vice chairman of the Korea Communications Commission (KCC).

Virtual reality (VR) technology supports Horizon Worlds, a metaverse platform run by Meta that is accessible to users in North America and some regions of Europe.

There have been reports of users experiencing sexual assault on Horizon Worlds, which has prompted Meta to adopt a personal boundary system which sets a four-foot distance between a user’s avatar and others with the exception of designated friends.

The Korea Communications Commission established a committee earlier this year to forbid such conduct as South Korea battles the existence of sexual predators on the metaverse.
