Indeed, the number of NFT and blockchain-related trademarks in the United States topped 6,000 between January 1 and September 30, according to statistics and a graphic published on October 5 by trademark and patent attorney Michael Kondoudis (The Law Office of Michael E. Kondoudis).
Last year saw a total of 2,142 NFT-related trademarks filed. By the end of September 2022, there were 6,366 such trademarks submitted, based on U.S. Patent and Trademark Office data. So the number of 2021 is under three times less than this year’s nine months.
With 1,080 submissions, March 2022 was the busiest month for NFT-related trademark registrations. Every month in 2022 saw reduced filings, including a 15% drop between August and September of this year.
Famous artists and famous brands have also begun to enter this field with trademark registration. The prominent names that can be mentioned are Miley Cirus, Snoop Dogg, or giants like Ford, Sony Music, and the luxury brand Hermès.
