By the end of the year, Meta’s Horizon Worlds flagship virtual reality social media network aimed to have 500,000 active monthly members. However, given the difficulties the company is having expanding its user base, that number is now being lowered to 280,000.
There are currently less than 200,000 active users. User activity has significantly decreased since the spring, with many users abandoning the platform after just one month of use. Only 9% of the worlds that are accessible are visited by the people who stay, and those worlds may have as many as 50 visitors. The vast majority of virtual locations are entirely disregarded.
According to reports, utilization of the $400 consoles’ $400 Quest VR headsets, which gamers use to access Horizon, has decreased over the previous three years.
According to people with knowledge of the situation, Horizon is also far behind in terms of concurrent users compared to other platforms that provide virtual social experiences, such as VR Chat, established in 2014, and Second Life, launched in 2003.
As of now, Meta shares are trading at $126.76, a decline of more than 60% over the past year. The company’s market worth has decreased by approximately $700 billion since its peak in September 2021.
