Scammer Monkey Drainer Found Stealing $1 Million In ETH
This week, an accused phishing scammer going by the alias Monkey Drainer allegedly stole about $1 million in Ethereum using fraudulent imitation nonfungible token (NFT) minting websites.
ZachXBT, a well-known blockchain investigator, was among the first to follow and publicize the activities, stating on October 26 that:
Four addresses, including monkey-drainer.eth, have been identified as being related to Monkey Drainer.
When these addresses are searched on the blockchain community-driven Web3 security network Chainabuse, a large record of reports linked to airdrop frauds, NFT scams, and phishing assaults appears.
Airdrop frauds via the Astrobot Society discord channel, a False Wolf Game and Bored Ape Yacht Club marketplace, and a fake Aptos Airdrop are among the recorded cases.
Web3 security group Wallet Guard also commented on ZachXBT’s Twitter thread, stating that it has seen multiple additional mint sites recently constructed using Monkey Drainer on the backend, including a phishing website with a bogus Garbage Friends whitelist link.
