LBRY Has Been Troubled With Apple About Censorship Terms

File-sharing and payment network based on blockchain LBRY claims that during the COVID-19 issue, Apple pushed it to block out specific search phrases in an apparent rejection of free expression.

LBRY claims in a November 28 Twitter post that it was told to censor anything related to COVID-19, particularly vaccines and the virus’s human origins, or risk having its apps removed from the Apple store.

The blockchain company announced in response to Elon Musk’s post, in which he stated that Apple had stopped chiefly advertising on Twitter due to concerns about the social media platform’s content, prompting LBRY to share its experience with Apple during the COVID-19 pandemic.

LBRY is a decentralized content-sharing network that gives artists, filmmakers, authors, and other content providers complete artistic and financial ownership over their work. One of its most well-known applications is the Odysee video-sharing website. However, it’s unclear whether this app was engaged in the claimed restriction.

The company also claims that when some of its users included Pepe the Frog images in videos, Apple “rejected” them.

Pepe the Frog is a 2005 Internet meme depicting a green anthropomorphic frog that has subsequently been embraced by Hong Kong protest organizations and utilized in political-based ideologies.

Musk took over Twitter on October 28 and has been teasing the release of the “Twitter Files,” alleged proof of the previous Twitter administration’s concerted effort to stifle free speech on the platform.
