SBF Receives Prison Counsel To Trim Hair, Deepen Voice, And Listen To Rap Music

Key Points:

  • Sam Bankman-Fried, the creator of FTX, has received free guidance from “Pharma Bro” Martin Shkreli, a former white-collar criminal, on making it through federal jail.
  • Sam Antar, a different former offender and the former CFO of Crazie Eddie, a notoriously corrupt business from the 1980s.
  • According to a Dec. 26 update on the SBF drama, workers installed surveillance cameras on Monday outside his parents’ Palo Alto home, where the FTX founder is staying while under house arrest.

Shkreli, who served almost four years in prison for securities fraud between 2018 and 2022, advised the former FTX executive, who is presently out on bail, to think about shaving his head, deepening his voice, and becoming more knowledgeable about rap and gang culture.

The previous prisoner stated that SBF needed to reinvent himself for jail since being a wealthy white kid from a good neighborhood “doesn’t sound fantastic” on a Dec. 23 episode of the cryptocurrency podcast Unchained.

“Sam isn’t exactly gonna be somebody that fits into prison,” Shkreli said, adding that his type of “sensibility doesn’t go over well” there, as it’s a “very testosterone-filled, masculine place.”

Alongside “shaving his head” and “deepening his voice,” Shkreli outlined that SBF needs to make friends fast and embed himself in the prison system’s culture. For example, Pharma Bro said SBF should “ no longer say he’s from Standford [University].”

“He also doesn’t know anything about the streets and criminal culture, my advice is to pick those things up as quickly as he can, he should be listening to as much rap music as possible, he should be trying everything there is to know about gangs.”

Sam Antar, a different former offender and the former CFO of Crazie Eddie, a notoriously corrupt business from the 1980s, offered Bankman-Fried an opposite piece of counsel: “JUMP BAIL AND RUN […] They can only hang you once.”

Shkreli appears to have developed a knack for giving crypto bad boys unsolicited advice about prison. During an appearance on The UpOnlyTV podcast last month, Shkreli was a guest alongside Terra/LUNA founder Do Kwon and told him:

“I just want to let you know jail’s not that bad, it’s not the worst thing ever, so don’t fret. I hope it doesn’t happen. But if it does happen, it’s not that bad.”

According to a Dec. 26 update on the SBF drama, workers were installing surveillance cameras on Monday outside his parents’ Palo Alto home, where the FTX founder is staying while under house arrest.

As things stand, SBF must wear an ankle monitor and is only permitted to leave the house for physical activity and drug and alcohol misuse treatment. Additionally, he is constrained in what payments he can make.
