Polygon Continues To Attract Web3 Gamers When Selected By Nexon

Key Points:

  • Nexon will operate a Polygon Supernet to supplement the in-game content of its game MapleStory Universe.
  • The Supernets will be used by the gaming industry to help the game thrive.
  • Players will be able to earn and acquire NFT things via gaming on the Supernet.
Nexon is developing a new Web3 game called MapleStory Universe based on its successful pixelated 2D role-playing genre, and it’s opening a private Supernet for the new game on Polygon.

Nexon said today at the Game Developers Conference that its MapleStory Universe virtual world ecosystem will let gamers and producers create and control non-fungible tokens (NFTs). To that end, it is collaborating with the Polygon blockchain system.

Nexon’s long-running success story is MapleStory, which debuted in 2003. According to the corporation, the game has produced more than $4 billion in revenue to date and has more than 180 million registered players. Almost 260 million cumulative players are listed on the game’s Steam website.

Content developers will build and launch new material and characters based on MapleStory IP and monitor using decentralized apps (dApps) beginning with MapleStory N.

Nexon will use Polygon Supernets to boost the game’s burgeoning in-game economy to new heights. Nexon can tailor a blockchain to satisfy the demanding needs of online gaming by using a specialized Polygon Supernet.

People use the current version of MapleStory’s money to purchase and sell things to one another. The Polygon Supernet, on the other hand, will enable users to acquire and gather NFT goods via games in order to unlock different advantages or usefulness throughout the ecosystem.

MapleStory Universe group leader Sun-young Hwang said:

“We are looking forward to expanding the NFT ecosystem envisioned by MapleStory Universe by building on Polygon, the top protocol for Web3 gaming. It is the perfect choice to power the ecosystem. We will work closely with the team at Polygon Labs to develop and market the game.”

Polygon has also recently been pushing hard with its Web3 game strategy. As Coincu reported, Immutable and Polygon collaborated to speed up the development of web3 gaming. The collaboration provides Immutable zkEVM, which allows IMX holders and one billion players to own assets on Ethereum.
