Do Kwon Can Appeal Passport Fraud Case To Supreme Court Delaying Extradition

Key Points:

  • Terraform Labs founder Do Kwon’s legal representative said he appealed the first instance judgment against the passport to the Supreme Court.
  • The extradition can take quite a while as the Terra director’s legal department will exercise its right to defend as much as possible.
  • On the 24th, a court in Montenegro ordered an extension of the detention period for CEO Kwon and his assistant, Mr. Han.
The legal representative of the founder of Terraform Labs, Do Kwon in Montenegro, lawyer Voislav Zetsevich, said in an interview that he had appealed the first instance judgment against Do Kwon’s passport to the Supreme Court, according to Yonhap News.

If they lose the case, they will appeal to the Supreme Court for a final decision and exercise their right to self-defense to the fullest extent. The media commented that the extradition could take quite a while.

He also said that extradition could be refused by the Montenegrin judicial authorities, arguing that extradition would only be completed after the judicial process in the case of forgery conditions.

It is expected that it will take a considerable amount of time before the actual repatriation, as Kwon’s side has clarified that they will exercise their right to self-defense as much as possible.

“I don’t want to talk about it and I don’t need to talk about it because the extradition process has not started yet(…). If the government of Montenegro receives a formal extradition request, whether it is South Korea or the United States of America. United States, a new court will be established and a separate proceeding will be conducted, but repatriation is not an issue at this stage.”

When CEO Do Kwon, who caused more than 50 trillion won in losses to investors worldwide, was arrested, the question of which country he would be repatriated was the biggest concern, heralding a long battle.

Lawyer Zecevich explained that the court for Kwon’s appeal had not been established, and the results had not been announced.

Attorney Zetsevich initially declined Yonhap News’ request for an interview but accepted it, saying he would only answer what he could as a lawyer, and in fact, he must Be consistent with “no comment” on sensitive questions.

As mentioned earlier, CEO Do Kwon, a key figure in the cryptocurrency “crash”, was arrested on the 23rd at Podgorica International Airport, the capital of Montenegro, after 11 months of hiding went abroad while trying to board a plane to Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) using a fake passport.
