Whether you are a Web3 and NFT aficionado or not, you have most certainly heard of the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC). The BAYC has expanded and grown into a full-fledged mainstream brand rather than merely an NFT collection. The BAYC now has its own apparel line, has been featured in a song by Snoop Dogg and Eminem, and has over one million Twitter followers. Considering all of this, you’re presumably curious about how individuals profit from BAYC NFTs.
In only two years, BAYC has grown to be one of the most recognizable brands in any NFT collection. Being the “most lucrative” project in the NFT ecosystem, you will almost certainly be unable to purchase BAYC NFT for less than six figures throughout most of 2022.
Nevertheless, “buy cheap, sell high” isn’t the only method to earn from the NFT ecosystem, which may surprise some (or not) since we can profit from IP via BAYC. Next, let’s look at some of the ways in which “Bored Ape” BAYC NFT holders may commercialize the IP.
F&B
Universe of Food Fighters
When it comes to BAYC’s culinary footprint, there is perhaps no larger brand than what the Food Fighters Universe has developed. Food Fighters made their name in the business with Bored & Hungry, a fast food restaurant that employs four BAYC NFTs as brand “ambassadors.”
If you’re bored and hungry, a Bored Ape Yacht Club-themed NFT restaurant with the same name provides a one-of-a-kind eating experience! The menu, cuisine, decor, floor, and outside are all themed around the legendary BAYC. This California-based burger eatery, which opened in 2022, went viral for a good reason.
Bored and Hungry is the first actual restaurant with a BAYC motif. In actuality, the new location is a burger-only restaurant in Long Beach, California. Interestingly, this facility began as a temporary pop-up, but its immediate popularity led to it becoming a permanent site.
Bored and Hungry, as the name implies, now provides an actual Bored Ape experience that is everything from dull!
The restaurant’s design recalls the precise characteristics of the legendary BAYC bar seen on the project’s website. This is an immersive experience, with hand-drawn ghosts on the walls, anchors, and signs like “FOMO” or “FUD Destroyer.” In reality, the entrance glass walls are covered in green slime, a clear homage to the Mutant Ape Yacht Club.
Food Fighters has also participated in a number of BAYC-inspired culinary events since the start of Bored & Hungry. Dr. Bombay’s Sweet Exploration (a sweet joint with Snoop Dogg) and Bored Taco are two of the most recent and well-known cuisine items based on BAYC (a joint venture with Web3 architect and crypto fund founder Champ Medici).
Bored Wine Co.
NFT supporters raised a glass as BAYC holders were eligible to invest in a case of customised wine from WiV’s initiative, the Bored Wine Co. They claim they want to provide BAYC members the chance to expand their organizations’ reach into the world of fine wine while also assisting a hand-picked set of wine producers in attracting new audiences.
Bored Wine Co. is a wine firm that enables BAYC NFT owners to put their Name on six different kinds of wine bottles. Bored Wine has also established a token-gated site, which allows BAYC holders to keep their customized wines for free in the company’s safe UK wine vault, or to have personalized wine sent straight to them. A digital replica of each bottle is also minted as an NFT and provided to the customer.
Ape Water
Ape water is the start of Ape Beverage for Web3 and Metaverse related products, new approaches to a market that is expected to reach trillions of dollars in the future.
The first version of Ape Water includes 16 cans of water taken directly from Mount Shata, California. This is one of the purest natural springs on Earth.
AriZona Iced Tea
Arizona Iced Tea (stylized as AriZona) is a famous brand owned by Arizona Beverages USA that was introduced in 1992. Since then, Arizona Iced Tea has grown in popularity, and the firm has created a variety of goods such as iced tea cocktails, energy drinks, and tea mixes. Arizona Iced Tea generated $100 million in sales in 2010, and the company’s total revenue reached $3 billion by 2017. The company claimed that it worked with the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) to create a comic NFT.
Fashion
Bored Ape Wear
Bored Ape Wear is a collection of fully sanctioned BAYC products designed by BAYC fans. Bored Ape Wear, which is said to be inspired by the business spirit of the Bored Ape Yacht Club, intends to shine a focus on the commercial entitlement that comes with BAYC membership, with the brand’s shop exhibiting a range of BAYC-featured clothes and accessories.
Members of the BAYC community who acquired and pledged to keeping at least one Bored Ape forever established Bored Ape Wear. Each limited edition item shows either one of the 10,000 certified Bored Apes or an authorised derivative created by a BAYC member. The original Bored Ape Token ID/License Number and blockchain QR code are also written on the collar label of each garment.
Diamond Supply Co. x Zumiez
Diamond Supply Co. introduced the Diamond Ape Collection in early 2022, containing a variety of items depicting Bored Apes and Mutant Apes, ranging from t-shirts and hoodies to skateboards and more.
Diamond Supply Co. x Zumiez is one of the most prominent apparel brands, with many of its Bored Ape-inspired lines still available at American Apparel and Zumiez.
Adidas
Adidas has opened its own way into the metaverse space with a partnership with BAYC. Adidas purchased BAYC NFT number 8774 and will turn the piece into a metaverse character called Indigo Herz. According to public Ethereum blockchain data via the OpenSea marketplace, NFT was purchased in September for 46 ETH, or more than $156,000 at the time. In addition, Adidas also used the above NFT as the profile picture for its Twitter account with more than 4 million followers in a short time.
Skate Bored
Skate Bored is a tiny BAYC IP effort established in 2021 by WoundedPixel, an unknown developer (or Pixel for short). Pixel has built the custom skateboard brand as the owner of BAYC #7676 by connecting with the greater BAYC community.
Music
Bassjackers
Bassjackers made a music video inspired on the Bored Ape Yacht Club, which featured numerous prominent primates from the club. The music video portrays bored apes head banging their way through various animated environments to the music of Bassjackers.
Kingship
Universal Music Group (UMG) revealed towards the end of 2021 that four characters from the BAYC project would establish a band named Kingship, which will consist of a Mutant Ape, three Bored Apes, and a group manager. The band was signed to Universal Music Group’s Web3 music label 10:22PM, which will distribute music, NFTs, community-based goods, events, and experiences.
Jimmy McNeils, a well-known NFT collector and aficionado known as j1mmy.eth, is providing the Apes in KINGSHIP. The cast includes a Mutant Ape and three Bored Apes, including the rare Golden Fur and Bluebeam Apes. As a result, current Bored Ape and Mutant owners will have early access to all KINGSHIP NFTs, experiences, and narrative choices.
Timbaland
Timbaland, the Grammy-winning producer and composer, has established Ape-In Productions (AIP), an entertainment firm and virtual community that will launch and promote Bored Apes as successful music artists in the metaverse.
Timbaland, who purchased a Bored Ape NFT, and his partners want to disrupt the music industry once again with this new endeavor, same to way Verzuz and Beatclub did.
Escape Plan
Escape Plan is a DJ/producer combo made up of two Bored Ape avatars. The gang is made up of bored Apes #309 and #4321, also known as zETH and ETHan. Artist Dillon Francis just completed a residence with Big Night Talent, which oversees Escape Plan. He received the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT #378 in return.
Conclusion
BAYC grants its first 10,000 NFT holders all commercial rights to the NFT with no limitation, which means that, unlike other licensing-based NFT series, which typically restrict income to $100,000 per year, BAYC holders may fully use IP advantages to generate enormous profits.
Creators of all sorts seem to be seeking for methods to generate money from BAYC without really contributing — much alone Yuga Labs, the firm that founded the initiative. Yet, people active in the BAYC ecosystem, particularly those with Bored Apes, are seeking for novel and exciting methods to monetize the IP of the NFTs they possess.
