As the CEO of Coinbase, Brian Armstrong has his finger on the pulse of the crypto industry. In a recent blog post, he shared his top 10 innovations and predictions for the future of crypto.
Armstrong started by emphasizing the importance of building during bear markets. He stated, “We’re building lots at Coinbase, but we don’t have time to tackle everything. So I figured I’d share these. Bear markets are the best time for building – why not start today?”
One of Armstrong’s top innovations is the concept of Flatcoin, a better form of money enabled by crypto. He believes it would be totally decentralized and track consumer prices to preserve purchasing power. It may need to be backed by a basket of assets to track CPI, or use an algorithmic approach.
Another innovation he discusses is Onchain Reputation, which would assign a reputation score to each address or ENS name based on the graph of onchain data. This could be used for lending, ratings on merchants, fraud prevention, and airdrops to VIPs.
Armstrong also envisions a future of Onchain Ads, where smart contracts could expose metadata about what they’re willing to pay to send users to a function call. Wallets and apps with lots of users can choose which ad or referral links to route requests to and share in the upside when they deliver users.
