According to The Block, Ava Labs, the developer behind the Avalanche blockchain, has hired two employees from Polygon and OKX with the goal of expanding its presence in India. Devika Mittal and Kamakshi Arjun have joined Ava Labs as the head of India and business development lead for India, respectively.
Mittal, formerly the head of listings at OKX, expressed the vast potential of the Indian market and mentioned ongoing discussions with prominent institutions and a finalized deal with a government agency. Mittal outlined Ava Labs’ plans to target various sectors such as ticketing, certification, and supply chain, replicating successful global partnerships in India.
Avalanche Expands In India
Notably, Ava Labs collaborated with SK Planet’s Dreamus and Indian game streaming platform Loco to enhance the ticketing experience and create new fan experiences on Avalanche. Mittal also highlighted the importance of Avalanche’s subnets feature, which allows developers to build customizable blockchains and specialized decentralized applications quickly and cost-effectively.
With the goal of expanding the blockchain ecosystem in India, Ava Labs has dedicated a business development fund for the country. However, Mittal emphasized that they aim to expand the pie rather than compete for a share of it.
Ava Labs, currently the seventh largest blockchain network worldwide, has a total value locked of nearly $500 million. Mittal and Arjun joined Ava Labs as the first full-time, India-based employees, and the local team plans to remain lean in the near future.
