The fund will invest in early-stage, high-growth web3 gaming startups, with King River leading the investment process, while Immutable and Polygon Labs will provide deal sourcing and gaming expertise. The fund has already reached its first close at $30 million out of the targeted $100 million.

The IGF has received commitments from Alpha Wave Ventures, Merit Circle, Mike Arrington, Polygon Labs’ Sandeep Nailwal, and Immutable’s co-founders James and Robbie Ferguson.

Brendan Ma, head of investments at Immutable, highlighted 2022 as a milestone year for web3 gaming, as studios are now two to three years post-funding.

IGF’s Role in Advancing the Gaming Industry

The IGF aims to fund the next wave of projects and advance the gaming industry forward in the long-term. The fund has already invested in seven early-stage projects, including Pixelmon, Metalcore, Guild of Guardians, and My Pet Hooligan.

The three firms have a pre-existing relationship; Polygon powers Immutable’s gaming-focused blockchain, and King River is an Immutable investor.

Zeb Rice, King River Capital’s co-founder, stated the fund is designed to benefit from the shift in spending to disruptive web3 technology, similar to the shift to mobile gaming seen in 2008.
